London, United Kingdom - 18 January 2012.The reference and information website Wikipedia will today display a blacked out web page in place of it's usual english language website. Wikipedia.com decided to go dark for for 24 hours from 05:00 UTC on Wednesday, January 18 2012 as a protest against proposed legislation in the United States, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate, that they believe if passed would "seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia."
